Canada Student Grant for Students with Dependants

This program helps full-time students with dependants with the cost of education.

What is available?

Up to $280* $200 per month of study for each child under 12 years of age.

*Note: the above Canada Student Grant amount is temporarily increased by 40% from 2019/20 pre-pandemic levels until July 31, 2025.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible if you are:

  • qualify for a federal student loan
  • are enrolled in full-time or part-time studies at a designated post-secondary institution
  • are from a low-income family
  • have a child under 12 years of age (or 12 years of age or older with a permanent disability) at the beginning of the school year

Based on your previous year’s annual income and family size, you may be eligible to receive up to $525* $375 per month of study ($4,200* $3,000 for a standard 8-month academic year), with gradually lower amounts awarded based on higher incomes as indicated on the Government of Canada website.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

  • qualify for a federal student loan;
  • have total family income for the previous calendar year that is equal to or less than the income threshold established by the Government of Canada; and
  • are pursuing full-time post-secondary studies leading to an undergraduate degree, certificate, or diploma, in a program of at least two years (60 weeks) duration at a designated institution.

This program helps students with disabilities pay for exceptional education-related services and adaptive equipment.

What is available?

You can only receive this grant when you have used up all available funds through the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment – Students with Disabilities (CSG-DSE).

You may be eligible if you:

  • are a student with a permanent disability, or a persistent or prolonged disability;
  • are enrolled at a designated private or public post-secondary institution in B.C.; and
  • are in developmental program/courses (upgrading, English as a Second Language or Adult Special Education); or
  • are studying at the post-secondary level and have exhausted CSG-DSE funding
