Repayment Assistance Plan for Borrowers with Disabilities
The Repayment Assistance Plan for Borrowers with Disabilities (RAP-D) helps you manage your Canada-B.C. integrated student loan debt by letting you to pay back what you can afford.
If you are having trouble making your monthly student loan payments and have a disability, RAP-D can help.
When you apply for RAP-D, we calculate an affordable payment based on how much money you make and the size of your family. While on RAP-D, the government covers the difference between your required payment and your affordable payment.
You can also claim disability-related expenses. These expenses will be considered when your application is assessed.
Borrowers are approved for RAP-D for 6-month periods. You can reapply for RAP-D every 6 months if you need to.
Visit the National Student Loans Service Centre website or call 1-888-815-4514 for more information.
Am I eligible?
You may be eligible for RAP-D if you have a verified permanent, or persistent or prolonged disability and:
- you live in Canada or:
- are a reservist or spouse of a reservist deployed abroad, or
- are on an international internship for a year or less
- have loans in repayment
- are up to date on your loan payments, and
- fall within the income thresholds for the program
How do I apply?
The National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) manages RAP-D on behalf of British Columbia.
Where can I apply for RAP-D?
You can apply online through the NSLSC website.
You may need to have your disability verified to get approved for RAP-D.
When can I apply for RAP-D?
You can apply for RAP-D as soon as you start to repay your student loans or anytime while you are in repayment. RAP-D is good for 6 months at a time. If you still need help, you can apply again every 6 months until your loan is paid off. If your disability is not permanent, you may also need to confirm the status of your disability.
